<span>Wildlife management is a very interesting subject and a very few books are available in this topic, some dealing with specific aspect while others are generic. Most of the books available are dealing with specific areas of wildlife management as per the expertise of the author and it is often found that these books do not cover the expanse of knowledge and science of what wildlife management is. While writing this book, the vastness of the topic with which wildlife management deals with in the current scenario has been duly kept in mind. Hence it is put into two volumes. In the first part, Biodiversity Conservation, Wild Life Values, Wildlife and its Management, Habitat Management, Population Management, Wild Life Ecology, Forest Fire, Biological Attributes and Habitat Requirement of important Animal Species, Capture, Restraint and Bio-Telemetry, Tracking of Animals based on Signs & Symptoms, Management of Wildlife Habitat and Conservation Projects, Organisations Involved in Wild Life Conservation and related Forest Laws have been dealt with. In the second part, the topics tackled are Policies Concerning Wildlife Management, Wildlife Protection Act, CITES in India, Investigation and trial regarding Wildlife Crime, Basic Principles and Uses of GPS, Statistical Concepts, Census, Wild Life Crime, Wild Life Diseases, Zoo Management, Man Animal Conflict, Eco Tourism, Eco Development, Recent Advances in Wildlife Management including Relocation of Tigers in Sariska (Rajasthan), Supreme Court Judgement regarding relocation of Lions, Conservation Breeding Programme of Snow Leopard in Tripura and Sangai Recovery Programme in Manipur. Lastly, a chapter on Future Path for Wildlife Conservation has also been included. The book has been written in a manner that is simple and easy to understand where a balance between theory and practical inputs has been struck. While, there is no dearth of scientific base of management covered, the application part of the science involved has also been duly given importance. I am confident that this book will be of help to all those who are in any way related to wildlife and its management, especially to wildlife managers and students of wildlife management.</span>
<span>Dr. Anil Kumar is Manipur-Tripura Cadre IFS Officer of 1980 batch. He had outstanding academic career from Allahabad University. He is Postgraduate in Mathematics and Economics. He obtained PG(Diploma) in Forest Survey using Aerial Photographs and Remote Sensing techniques (one year) from ITC, Netherlands. He completed his Ph.D. on the topic “Rural Development through Forestry and Allied Activities in Hills district of PAURI” from Economics Department, Manipur University. He had to his credit several technical papers on Forestry and Allied subjects published in International Journals. As Director, Directorate of Forest Education, Dehradun, he was engaged in capacity building programme of frontline staff in the whole country. He arranged to conduct the refresher courses for the first time in the country. He published a reference Manual as “Training Material for Frontline Staff”. As Professor at Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun, he was instrumental in formulating Mid-Career-Training Programme at different levels of IFS Officers. He imparted training in important Forestry subjects as Forest Biometry, Forest Economics, Forest Laws etc. to Indian Forest Services and State Forest Service’s trainee officers. He also wrote a book entitled “Fundamentals of Forest Statistics”. He held several important positions in the Forest Department, Manipur, including Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Forest Development Agencies & Conservation) and Chief Wildlife Warden. Presently, he is working as Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Central), N.E. Region at Shillong. His present assignment includes supervision in the Regional Office for the diversion of forest land for various non-forestry purposes in eight States (All Seven N.E. States and Sikkim) and approval of Working Plans in the eight States etc. </span>
